A protected species
Hermanus was voted as one of the best destinations worldwide for watching marine mammals. Whether from land or boats, with spectacular annual visits from the Southern Right and Humpback whales and enormous pods of dolphins year-round.
Hermanus is one of the twelve best whale viewing sites in the world, and offers the best land-based whale-watching in the world. From June to the end of November there are Southern Right and Humpback whales in the bay, and a walk along the cliff path, or relaxing on the patio at the penthouse, will be all you need to understand why Hernamus has registered that claim.
The best time to view whales, and when you are almost guaranteed spectacular displays, is from August to the end of October. The whales calve in August and September and the population peaks in October.
